Hello from Mrs Salter
My name is Mrs Salter - welcome to the Rother class page.
Rother is Slinfold's Year 6 class and we aim to be excellent role models as the oldest members of the school.
This term, our topic has been Earth Matters and we have learnt about some of the many amazing animals who inhabit our planet. As part of our learning, we have also found out about some of the world's greatest naturalists, zoologists and biologists. In science, we have also been finding out about food webs in different habitats. If you would like to continue discovering more about this area of your learning, you could carry out some more research on the food web you created - try to find out if there any possible problems which may disrupt your web for example deforestation, climate change, hunting or the introduction of new species. I look forward to finding out what you discover.
Don't forget that while you are at home you can:
Things to remember...
Homework is set on a Friday and is due back the following Thursday. Homework may be related to our current classroom learning or used to revisit, and help us assess children's understanding of previous learning.
Reading Journey (DON'T FORGET TO KEEP US WITH YOUR JOURNEY WHILE YOU ARE AT HOME) :)
Reading Journals need to be brought into school every day as we use them to record our class reading activities. On a Friday, the journal will be collected in and we will be looking for children reading widely at home and will be talking to children about tasks they have completed from their reading journey. Do remember that we love to see parental comments in the journals too. Children will also have the opportunity to visit the school library - they will be able to bring a wide range of books home and we now have a specific area in the library where children can choose books which are part of the reading journey. Library sessions, led by Mrs Ager and our Y6 librarians, will support children in making wise book choices - building on their enjoyment and range of reading experiences.
PE kit Our current PE slots are on Tuesdays and Fridays but we ask that PE kit is kept in school all week. We will encourage the children to take them home for a wash every now and again!
Please encourage the children to come and talk to us if they are worried about anything. Similarly, if you have any concerns, please do come and talk to us ASAP. It is beneficial to your child that we communicate effectively and the classroom door is always open.
Check out the links below and all of those on our home learning page - there are lots of great activities to keep you busy while school is closed :)
