Hello from Mrs Salter
My name is Mrs Salter - welcome to the Rother class page.
Rother is Slinfold's Year 6 class and we aim to be excellent role models as the oldest members of the school.
This term, our topic is Storytellers and we will be learning about the great Saxon storytellers - Beowulf will be our key text for the first part of the term and the text will help us understand Anglo Saxon life and the reasons the Saxons travelled to England. For the second part of the term, Rother will read stories about refugees - with a focus on the reasons that people from more modern day communities may have to travel to other countries to make new lives for themselves.
Mrs Ager also works in Rother to support our learning throughout the week - do not hesitate to come and talk to us
if you have any questions.
Things to remember...
Homework is set on a Friday and is due back the following Thursday. Homework may be related to our current classroom learning or used to revisit, and help us assess children's understanding of previous learning.
Reading Journal, Reading Books & Reading Rockets
Reading Journals need to be brought into school every day as we use them to record some of our class reading activities. On a Friday, the journal will be collected in and we look for at least 5 reading reflections recorded. If five comments are achieved, children make their way up our class Reading Rockets challenge display. If children make it to the top rocket by the end of term - this is celebrated in celebration worship. Do remember that we love to see parental comments in the journals too. Children will also have the opportunity to visit the school library - they will be able to bring a wide range of books home. Library sessions, led by Mrs Ager and our Y6 librarians, will support children in making wise book choices - building on their enjoyment and range of reading experiences.
PE kit Our current PE slots are on Tuesdays and Fridays but we ask that PE kit is kept in school all week. We will encourage the children to take them home for a wash every now and again!
Rother are taking part in Forest school learning each Wednesday afternoon during this half term.
Please encourage the children to come and talk to us if they are worried about anything. Similarly, if you have any concerns, please do come and talk to us ASAP. It is beneficial to your child that we communicate effectively and the classroom door is always open.
