On Tuesday evening Slinfold Handbell Ringers joined our choir for a concert. We enjoyed a wide variety of pieces played by the ringers who brought along five octaves of handbells, which they allowed the children to try out afterwards. We learnt that handbells ring in only one direction which enables ringers to hold two, or sometimes three, smaller bells in one hand. The largest bells were very heavy indeed.
The school choir performed favourite songs from the recent Weald Music Festival with enthusiasm and confidence and everyone enjoyed refreshments at the end.
You can listen here to one of the handbell pieces - the Radetzky March.
Hamble, Medway and Arun enjoyed a wonderful day on Friday at Hampton Court. The children loved walking round the kitchens, the chapel, Henry VIII’s apartments and the gardens. We also enjoyed a workshop where we learned a Tudor Dance, looked at Tudor artefacts and also created a Tudor hat. I was very impressed with the children’s behaviour, listening and the questions they asked. The lady who ran the workshop told me that our children’s behaviour was exceptional. I know that all the staff on Friday were very proud of the children. I would recommend a visit to Hampton Court with your children this summer as we only touched on some of the wonderful rooms there in the time we had. I know I will be returning!
Summer FThe final total is looking at just over £6100, which I’m sure you will agree is absolutely fantastic. I know I have said thank you before, but the committee really need to be applauded for all their
hard work in organising the Fair. It is a huge task and it does make such a difference when people
volunteer and help over the weekend.
The PTA have very kindly agreed to fund two major improvements to our school. The first is to create an
outside area at the back of Medway class. This new area is also going to incorporate a stage area for
outside performances and all the whole school and Pre-school will be able to use and enjoy this area. Work will start on this during the summer holidays.
The second improvement is to repair and renew the bridge and decking areas in the Environmental Area.
John Burrell recognised that this area needed some major work and with the funding from the PTA this can
now go ahead. The PTA are match funding the contribution from school and a charity. I will be writing
about this project in more details before the end of term.
Without all the wonderful efforts of our PTA committee and your support we wouldn’t be able to have
these extra facilities and building works.air
Please try to walk to school every day this week as it is Walk to School Week. . You can also run,
jog, scoot or ride your bike if you prefer! As I have mentioned above you can park, at The Red
Lyon, and stride to school as well.
