On Friday the 10th June we will be celebrating the Queen’s birthday by having a tea party in the school playground in the afternoon. The children will be taking part in some fun activities in the morning and finishing the day with a little tea party where we will sing some songs, eat some birthday cake and perform some ‘Royal’ poetry. We would love it if the children wore red, white and blue for the day or wore any Union Jack items. If there are any parents that are able to volunteer and help with setting up and tidying up afterwards all for the reward of a piece of Victoria Sponge, then please let your child’s class teacher know.
The children had a brilliant day with Crazy Mary from Crazy Mary crafts at the end of the spring term and started making a quilt for the hall. The children all designed a British river wildlife tile and the winners produced a patch for the quilt. Our new quilt has arrived. We think it looks fabulous and will certainly brighten up the hall. Thank you to the PTA that helped to fund part of this art project that the children enjoyed so much. We now just need to hang it.
WOW! On Thursday, we had a special visit from Living Streets mascot, 'Strider' and local representative, Kate. Slinfold children were presented with £100 worth of vouchers for having the best data for schools joining the WOW – 'Walk Once a Week' – scheme since September.
Each month children who have walked once a week (this includes park and stride), receive a badge. For these badges there is a free smartphone app available on IOS and Android to bring the WoW badges to life via 3D content. You can download the app by searching ‘walk to school’ within the App Store and Google Play. The walk to school app is fun and easy to use. Simply scan the WoW badge and watch the scene unfold.
Ola! To celebrate the Olympics being held in Rio this year, our language of the term is Portuguese. The children will be learning some basic words and finding out about which countries around the world speak Portuguese. You will be surprised to know that there are 9 other countries in which Portuguese is their main language.
You can find out about how to pronounce words by following this link: http://www.newburyparkschool.net/langofmonth/
Ola - Hello
Bom dia - Good morning
Boa tarde - Good afternoon
Chau - Goodbye
The children will also be finding out about famous people that speak Portuguese and about other influential people from other Portuguese speaking countries.
Words relating to 'servant' or 'service' are central to our Christian Value this term. Jesus washed the feet of his disciples at the Last Supper. This turned upside down the normal relationship between master and disciple, leader and follower. This term we will be discovering what this symbolises and how Jesus set an example to his followers and wished for everyone else to do the same.
Serving God means serving others. The children will be thinking about how we can serve each other and how serving others makes us humble.
What a great day! Book swap, book mark competitions, best dressed competitions and DEAR (Drop Everything and Read) were just some of the fun activities happening today at Slinfold.
We had a range of book characters from the little boy from Lost and Found by Oliver Jeffers to Tom Sawyer.
Keep on reading everyone.....Book fair from the 14th.
