As part of their topic and science work, Mr Pannell came and talked to the children in Hamble and Medway about his job as a tree surgeon. They found out about different types of trees and how to care for them. The children spent time investigating different leaves, bark and fungi! They also learnt how to work out how old a tree is. It was a great way to bring their learning to life! Also, Medway would like to thank Dylan’s grandmother for coming in to talk about floristry and plants. The children loved their Snapdragon flowers and learnt about flower pressing.
On Wednesday 22nd June, the children in Reception, year 1,2 and 3 enjoyed a fabulous day out at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew. The children enjoyed many of the attractions from iconic buildings and glasshouses to inspirational art collections and landscapes. One of the highlights was the new Hive scuplture designed by Wolfgang Buttress, which tells the plight of the honeybee and is surrounded by a beautiful meadow. It was nothing like our hive though!
Hamble, Medway and Arun enjoyed a wonderful day on Friday at Hampton Court. The children loved walking round the kitchens, the chapel, Henry VIII’s apartments and the gardens. We also enjoyed a workshop where we learned a Tudor Dance, looked at Tudor artefacts and also created a Tudor hat. I was very impressed with the children’s behaviour, listening and the questions they asked. The lady who ran the workshop told me that our children’s behaviour was exceptional. I know that all the staff on Friday were very proud of the children. I would recommend a visit to Hampton Court with your children this summer as we only touched on some of the wonderful rooms there in the time we had. I know I will be returning!
