What a wonderful morning we had in school and Pre-School on Friday. We started with Pre-school sports day which was very well attended by many parents and grandparents. All the children had fun running, jumping, kicking and throwing and their sports day finished with the children running under the solar panels. The parents' race was a hotly contested event — a mums against dads race. Balls were meant to be passed over heads and through legs and I think there is still an on-going steward’s enquiry! Thank you to all the parents who supported this most enjoyable event.
The rest of the school then came out onto the field for their sports day. The four house teams were all divided into three sub teams and they all went around the field competing in different events using their PE skills. The morning culminated in races which all children were involved in. We also had parents, staff and toddler races. I was very impressed with all the children as I saw and heard some fantastic, encouraging support from the children to one another. Well done to all our sporty Slinfold children! As you can see from the photograph Griffin House came first with 4178 points, Dragon were second with 4027 points, Phoenix were third with 3910 points and in fourth were Sphinx with 3711 points. Thank you to the parents, grandparents and friends who supported the children on Friday and stayed for the picnic on the field afterwards. It was a glorious morning and everyone seemed to really enjoy themselves. Thank you to the PTA for the providing the ice lollies which were very popular!
We had home fixtures against Wisborough Green on Thursday, but the football match had to be cancelled as it rained on Wednesday night meaning the pitch was unplayable. The netball went ahead and our team played very well but didn’t score as many goals! We lost 6-1. Thank you to Mrs Barber and well done to Ollie C, Tilly, Alice, Ella, Ted, Bryce, Amy, Charlotte and Sinead.
Out basketball team played on Thursday 13th February. Her is the report of the match.
!In Group A it was nail biting stuff with all four teams fighting hard to finish in the top spot. With all games played three teams were on l2 points - Shelley, Holbrook and Greenway A – so it came down to goal difference to put Shelley to the top with Holbrook tucked in just behind.
Slinfold deserve a special mention for a battling and skilful performance, the ability of the twin girls - Charlotte and Amy Wilcox - at the heart of their team was a sight to behold as they went down to three close defeats in high quality company. The standard of this top tier has never been higher in the 10 years or so that the league has been running.’
Well done to Amy, Charlotte, Aidan and Liam and thank you to Mrs Cole.
Mrs Cole went with our team to Collyers for the Tag Rugby Festival. Mrs Cole was delighted with the way our team played and could see a huge improvement from the last game. It was a festival so there were no winners but all our team played well with great team spirit. Well done to Tilly, Damien, George Henry, Ollie C, Ollie B, Reece, George A and Luke.
Mrs Barber was equally as delighted with her netball team who played at BBH on Wednesday. They drew one match and lost 3 but this was only the second time they have played together as a team. Mrs Barber knows there is potential with these players. I can confirm they are a very dedicated group who are always practising at break and lunch times. Well done to Ella, Ollie B and Ollie C, Tilly, Alice and Bryce.
A special thank you to both Mrs Cole and Mrs Barber for their coaching skills, support and encouragement with our Rugby and netball teams.
Every Friday morning we have our X factor worship. This is when we celebrate two children’s learning from each class. The letter changes every week. Last week it was the ‘S factor’ and so we had some sensational learning, super maps and learning that surpassed all others. As we go through the year every letter of the alphabet is covered and it certainly tests the teacher’s alliterative skills! The children have their photograph taken and their work, photographs and certificates are displayed for a week.
Please come and look at the display especially if your children have been awarded a certificate.
Wow! What a fantastic time we had on Friday. We started the day with Pre-school sports day which was really good. All the children joined in and there were so many parents and families of children in Pre-school there supporting the little ones. All the Pre-school children and staff enjoyed themselves running, throwing and jumping.
We then followed on with the school sports day. I hope that everyone enjoyed themselves and had fun. I certainly saw everyone joining in with the sporting activities and running their fastest. Well done to all four house teams, but particularly to Dragon who won! Sphinx came second, Griffin third and then Phoenix. Pictured above are the house captains of Dragon team.
Thank you to parents and staff who joined in with the races as well.
Harrie and Holly from year 6 report on a special music day at Christ's Hospital School:
‘On Friday the 7th June 2013 a few people (Paige, Zoe, Harrie, Holly, James, Tilly, Charlotte M, Charlotte W and Amy) from our school went and enjoyed a fantastic music day at Christ's Hospital. It was great! All of the schools came together and were split into 3 groups: strings, woodwind and singers.
We all worked on our part in the piece we played. The piece we played was called “The Storm”. Two students from our school read a bit of the poem that went along side it! We had a fabulous lunch as well! Thank you Christ hospital for a great day!’
Mrs Bickerton was very proud of our children who performed so well in the magnificent Great Hall at Christ Hospital.
Well done to our netball team who played very well in the heat on Thursday after school against Kirdford and Plaistow. We won 13-1.The football played equally as well and came close to equalising. The final score was 2-1. Well done to both teams and Thank you to Mrs Barber and Mr Barton for organising teams, squash and biscuits.
The years 3 and 4 football team played very well on Friday night at BBH and although didn’t win any matches played as a team and showed great team spirit. I could see a huge improvement from the last time they played in the tournament so well done!
Our Netball team are playing really well and are second in the league after playing again on Wednesday. They are competing against 19 other schools, most of whom are much larger than ours. Well done to the team; Harrie, Ben, Holly, Madeline, Jasmine, Georgia, Ella, Emilia and Dom. Thank you to Mrs Barber for her coaching skills. They will be playing again this Wednesday at Broadbridge Heath so I will keep you informed of their progress!
