Sports day

24/6/2013

Picture
Wow! What a fantastic time we had on Friday. We started the day with Pre-school sports day which was really good. All the children joined in and there were so many parents and families of children in Pre-school there supporting the little ones. All the Pre-school children and staff enjoyed themselves running, throwing and jumping.

We then followed on with the school sports day. I hope that everyone enjoyed themselves and had fun. I certainly saw everyone joining in with the sporting activities and running their fastest. Well done to all four house teams, but particularly to Dragon who won! Sphinx came second, Griffin third and then Phoenix. Pictured above are the house captains of Dragon team.

Thank you to parents and staff who joined in with the races as well.

Writing 'Haiku' with Adur Class

19/6/2013

Adur Class went into the environmental area to write Haiku poems. These are inspired by nature, what we can see and hear. A Haiku poem is only 3 lines, line 1 is 5 syllables, line 2 is 7 syllables and the final line is 5 syllables.
We learned a lot and enjoyed sharing our poems with each other.

Year 6 Design Technology Visit to The Weald

18/6/2013

Picture
Year 6 enjoyed a visit to The Weald, where they have made a
'Jitterbug'.  They constructed an electrical circuit with a
motor, which made their bug vibrate.  They designed their
own imaginary bug shell to cover the circuit.  It has
provided an excellent opportunity for those children due to
attend The Weald from September to get used to their
surroundings and meet some of the teachers.  They are
looking forward to returning for another session.

Rother Class Apprentice/Masterchef Project

18/6/2013

Rother Class worked incredibly hard on an
Apprentice/Masterchef-style project in the weeks leading up to the half term break.  In groups, the children researched popular dishes in countries that interested them, compared recipes, wrote shopping lists, calculated the cost of making the dish and planned successful marketing campaigns including delivering presentations to the rest of the school and making persuasive leaflets and posters.  The children had a 'trial-run' where they made their dish, designed the presentation of the food, tasted it and made amendments to their recipes.  They then cooked for a final time when their dish was tasted and judged by a professional chef.  All of the children seemed to enjoy the project.  I think we may have a few budding Masterchef finalists amongst the class!

Summer Fair Total

17/6/2013

Picture
The amount raised from the Summer Fair was £5544.00. An amazing total! Thank you to the very hard working committee who made the fair such a success and to everyone who supported us on the day. It really was a lovely day helped by the weather. All the children will benefit from the money raised.
Work will be starting soon on a new adventure trail for the field. This is being paid for by FOSSA from previous fundraising and it will be much enjoyed by all children.

Music at Christ's Hospital

17/6/2013

Harrie and Holly from year 6 report on a special music day at Christ's Hospital School:
‘On Friday the 7th June 2013 a few people (Paige, Zoe, Harrie, Holly, James, Tilly, Charlotte M, Charlotte W and Amy) from our school went and enjoyed a fantastic music day at Christ's Hospital. It was great! All of the schools came together and were split into 3 groups: strings, woodwind and singers.
We all worked on our part in the piece we played. The piece we played was called “The Storm”. Two students from our school read a bit of the poem that went along side it! We had a fabulous lunch as well!  Thank you Christ hospital for a great day!
’

Mrs Bickerton was very proud of our children who performed so well in the magnificent Great Hall at Christ Hospital.

Quiet area mosaic competition

11/6/2013

Picture
The School council have chosen the winner of the competition to decide which mosaic will be created by Mrs Petros. When it is finished it will be hung outside in the quiet area. Well done to Henry in Rother Class. Second place was a tricky decision. In the end it was agreed that Mrs Petros would amalgamate parts of the multiple winning designs into just one design for the mosaic. The mosaic will be a combination of designs by William, Bella, Rowan, Charlie C and Henry C from Hamble class, Well done to you all. I am sure the quiet area will look so much better with the two mosaics on the walls. I will let you know as soon as the first one is completed and on the wall so you can walk round and admire it.
