Welcome to Hamble
Welcome to Hamble Class!
My name is Mrs Tingley, and I teach in Hamble class with children from Reception and Year 1. In the classroom with me are a wonderful team who are ready to support your children. They are: Mrs Richmond (full time TA), Mrs Petros (LSA), Mrs Wilkinson (LSA) and Mrs Richards (LSA)
Reception learning is quite different from Pre-School. Our play is more focused to tasks and topics being covered. In Hamble, we learn through:
Playing and exploring - Children will investigate and experience things, having a go with new equipment and resources. They will be set challenges to solve and difficulties to overcome.
Active learning - Children will develop more resilience and concentration for difficult tasks as they will need to master difficult skills. They will work harder, but achieve greater successes which they can celebrate with their peers.
Creating and thinking critically - Children will need to develop their ideas and create links between their knowledge. They will develop strategies to help them achieve with new tasks and challenges.
During the year the children will be encouraged to look at and begin to read a variety of books at school and at home. Reading at home is very important and I encourage you to spend a little time each day talking about books and stories. Your child's reading and looking at books at home is recorded in a reading diary. We will change reading books on a Monday, Wednesday and Friday. This year there will be a new reading challenge to encourage the children to read 5 times a week, with prizes for consistent readers!
Homework will be set on a Friday and is due in on the following Thursday. Year 1 have keywords or a phonics based homework and number bonds to practice. Year 1 children will have an informal number bonds or times table quiz every Monday and you will be kept up to date on their progress.
Each term all the children are also given a choice of creative topic homework to do. Their amazing creations are shared and celebrated!
We will have whole class PE on Tuesday morning (dance/gym) and on Friday morning (games). The children will need a named PE kit in school every week. We recommend that these are taken home for washing every half term.
Water bottles & snacks:
We encourage the children to bring a named water bottle to school each day. Please only fill with water, not juice or squash! We supply a fresh fruit / vegetable snack at break time but children may bring their own fruit or vegetable snack in if they prefer.
Please avoid bringing large bags into school as space in Hamble's cloakroom area is limited.
Each term we have a new topic which covers many different areas of the curriculum. The Spring term topic is 'Night, Night'. This topic is Science and Geography based, looking at the wonderful world of Owls and Nocturnal animals. Click below to see our topic web.
