Slinfold School is the proud owner of an Eco ‘Green Flag’ which means we are very good at making sure we are as ecological as possible. At the moment we recycle our paper, make compost from our fruit peelings, save electricity and water where ever possible and use our outdoors for lots of exciting lessons. Some of our mums are coming in to do gardening with us and we are hoping that soon the birds will return to their nesting box where we have CCTV set up! Our environmental area is great and we love to go out there to find out about nature as there is a pond, hideouts and wooden walkways through the trees.
The Green Dragons are pupils who work together to make our school more ‘green’. They meet every half term and think of new ways to be ‘green’. Lots of jobs need to be done like checking that the re-cycling is being done properly or taking energy meter readings to analyze.
In October 2012 we opened our new solar panels. On sunny days we are producing more electricity than we need which means we can sell it back to the Electricity Grid.
Green Dragons raised £11.00 at their leek sale! Mrs Hamer will be taking some of the Green dragons to buy some indoor plants, with the money raised from the Leek sale and shoe recycling.
