Carrie Cort, from Sussex Green Living came to speak to us all about rubbish and recycling, as we are hoping to do more at school.
Carrie did a whole school worship, followed by individual class workshops the following week.
The children had lots of fun playing recycling games, meeting Pedro the frog and the recycle robots.
The days are getting shorter, the nights are longer and we are using more energy at home and school so it’s time for 'Switch Off Fortnight’! Switch-Off Fortnight has been organised by EDF Energy’s national education programme, the Pod, to encourage schools to reduce their energy consumption and inspire families and friends to adopt the same good energy habits.
The Green Dragons (Eco team) will be encouraging the children and teachers to switch off classroom lights and projectors when the classrooms are empty. They will be checking the classrooms to ensure this is happening as well as checking that outside classroom doors are closed. There will also be a take home task available to children (this may be given as a homework task).
Please encourage your children to do the same at home and even switch off appliances that are on standby. Attached to the newsletter is a letter that provides more detail and a take it home worksheet so your children can run their own secret audit at home! Encourage them to make an energy saving pledge with you at www.jointhepod.org/energypledge. Thank you, Mrs Hamer and the Green Dragons.
