Houses of Parliament 2017

20/1/2017

On Monday the school council visited the Houses of Parliament. First we took a train to London Victoria. Then we walked through the rain and puddles to the Houses of Parliament for about twenty minutes. When we got inside we went through security and our bags were scanned whilst we walked through the walk in scanner. We walked through the freezing cold wind to the Westminster Hall where we met Mr Jeremy Quinn our local MP for West Sussex. We asked him a few questions and he told us that he sits behind Teresa May in the House of Commons but that the cameras only seem to film his belly! He informed us that he needs to go on a diet! The tour was very factual thanks to Paul our guide. He explained the history of the Houses of Parliament and why the seats were different colours in the House of Lords and the House of Commons. Red for wealth (House of Lords) and green for peasants (House of Commons). Red dye was very expensive and therefore a sign of wealth. A good day was had by all, even though we got very wet!
